Are You A Mistake?
Mrs. B was my art teacher all through high school. She was an amazing teacher and I was a terrible artist. At the height of my artistic career I submitted what I thought was a masterfully drawn picture of an elk for our school’s art competition. Needless to say, I didn’t win.
Years later I found that drawing and marveled at how terrible it was. It was not a work of art in any sense of the word. It was not proportioned right; the shading was terrible and the antlers were a hot mess. It was quite possibly the ugliest elk I’ve ever seen. It was as if every move of my pencil was a mistake.
Maybe you’re reading this today and you feel that way about your life? You feel as if everything from your physical body, the decisions you’ve made, to the way your life is turning out is one big mistake. And you’re asking yourself… “What’s the point?”
If that’s you then I have great news. God DOESN’T MAKE MISTAKES. Ever! He doesn’t do accidents and He doesn’t do trial runs.
God only ever makes masterpieces!
Ephesians 2:10 says that you “are God’s masterpiece. He is creating you new in Christ Jesus, so that you can do the things he planned for you long ago.”
Do you know what that means? It means you’re not a mistake. God created you on purpose and designed you for something spectacular long ago.
Oh you might not feel that way. You might feel like the way you look is a mistake and you’re just one big hot mess. But do you know what I’ve learned about our feelings?
Feelings are not foundational. In other words we can’t build our lives on what we feel. We build our lives on what God says.
He says you are a masterpiece to him no matter what you feel. You’re an on purpose person designed for a powerful purpose.
True, you might not be where you want to be. The good news is you’re not where you used to be. And when you come to know Jesus you begin to realize that you’re a masterpiece in progress not perfection realized.
God is constantly making you better through a relationship with Jesus and he never makes mistakes. He only ever makes masterpieces. That’s you!
