Does anybody really know what it means to “poke” someone on facebook? Really, the whole process makes no sense to me. I have been poked so many times and I still don’t know what to do with all the pokes. I’m guessing people just use it to try and get people’s attention.
Do we honestly think that it’s ever really going to get someone’s attention? Are we so lacking in quality friendships that we feel a quick “poke” on facebook is going to launch that friendship into a depth we have never know before?
Maybe we do? As sad as it sounds perhaps facebook has become one of the platforms we measure the quality and value of our lives. Maybe to some extent those “poking” relationships make us feel that we are wanted, appreciated and befriended.
Have you ever stopped to consider that you don’t need to, and never will need to, “poke” God for his friendship? Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know the master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends…” (John 15:13-15)
We should definitely have peace knowing that Jesus has already given us his full attention. He doesn’t need us to remind him that we are here. He already extended his friend request to us a long time ago by way of giving up his life.
Sometimes we need a little God “poke” to remind us that he is here and that he has always been here. He has his hands of friendship extended out towards us. So feel safe in his love and enjoy the friendship.
