If I were to open my refrigerator right now I would find soda, milk, juice, cheese, yogurt, taquitos and many other wonderful things to eat and drink. I often complain there is nothing to eat when in reality there is plenty to eat; there’s just nothing that I want at the moment. I am so spoiled!
Did you know that every year 6 MILLION children die from hunger related causes before they ever reach their fifth birthday? That’s like losing every child under the age of five from California, Texas, New York, Florida and Arizona combined all in the same year!
God set the standard for how his people should look out for those who are in need long before there were special government programs and charitable organizations that give to the needy.
God’s word tells us, “But if someone who is supposed to be a Christian has money enough to live well, and sees a brother in need, and won’t help him how can God’s love be within him? Little children, let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions.” I John 3:17-19
We have a great responsibility to put our faith into action. God requires us to be people who do, not just people who talk. He wants us to show the world his love by helping others.
Not every American is a millionaire but if you have change in your pocket, on your dresser, or in your car you’re among the wealthiest 30% of the world. We might not have as much as the guy next door, but we have more than someone.
We need to ask God to expand our hearts and give us a greater capacity to help those who need it most. Then we need to take action! Maybe it’s time to practice more of what we preach and show the world God cares about people through the actions of his children.
